The Youth Legislative Assembly (YLA) is a mock legislative session where high school students voice their opinions and vote on issues concerning local, state and national government as well as the confidence and ability to debate current issues. The YLA is open to all North Carolina students, grades 9-12 who are interested in learning more about the government and legislative process. The three-day session is patterned almost exactly after the N.C. General Assembly.
Jasmine Spears, a student at Overhils High School who attended the YLA stated that she had a great time and learned a lot from the experience. The YLA is a great opportunity for students, especially those hoping to pursue a career in government.
