The fifth presidential debate, and the last debate of 2015. The Republican debate was live in Las Vegas and aired on CNN at 8 p.m. There were nine candidates that competed on stage: Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, former gov. Jeb Bush, businesswoman Carly Fiorina, New Jersey gov. Chris Christie, Ohio gov. John Kasich, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, neurosurgeon Ben Carson and businessman Donald Trump.
In the debate ISIS, foreign policy and privacy and security was mainly discussed. Ted Cruz, one of the front runners in the presidential polls "gave a strong performance, sure to please his base." according to CNN. Rubio mostly focused on what to do with foreign policy. CNN political commentator, Michael Smereonish said that Jeb Bush "turned in a strong performance with his ability to repeatedly needle Trump." During the debate, Trump avoided any big confrontation with other candidates. CNN reports that Fiorina doesn't offer anything new to the voters and her tactic of elbowing her way into the debate didn't help. Governor Chris Christie claimed voters want a "president who actually knows what they're doing." Christie said the senators on stage are "people who've never had to make a consequential decision in an executive position." Kentucky senator Rand Paul, jabbbed at many candidates, CNN reported "he was effectively shut out by the overwhelming opposition to his foreign policy views present on stage." Carson was mostly quiet throughout the debate, and complained about not having enough time to talk. Kasich questioned many of the candidates about the situation and called out Trump's unserious proposals.
