On August 27, the Oxford dictionary added several new words to the online dictionary. The words they selected to use are selected because they believe that they’ll last the test of time. Three words that they added are Awesomesauce “meaning extremely good or excellent,” Cat Cafe “established where people pay to interact with cats housed on the premises” and Onboarding “action or process of integrating a new employee into an organization or familiarizing a new customer or client with one’s product or service.” Some other words that they added that you could look up are cheffy, melty, cidery, cupcakery and MacGyver. -Michael O'Halloran | |
Those upgrading their cell phones in September are in luck as the iPhone 6s model is going on sale September 18 and has a few new features. The screen size will remain the same with the 4.7 in screen for regular iPhones and 5.5 inch for the plus model. The similarities end there as this new model is thicker, probably due to the original's unintentional flexibility from being too thin. The phone will be available in the current iPhone's colors as well as rose gold, a coppery pink color.
Other features include a faster processor and the camera will be upgraded to 12 megapixels, quite the change from the 6's eight megapixels. The video quality will also be bumped up to 4K video recording support, which is about the same as a modern TV set. This change was put into place to make video recording better for those creating content using their phones such as vloggers and even film makers. Force touch is another new feature that controls the phone by differentiating touches on the screen, which has also been used on the Apple Watch. Will you upgrade or stay the same? -Juanita Guzman Technology has been increasing and changing in a major way. Technology has helped out in our medical needs, military as well as businesses. Over the years technology has been improved. When technology came to Katrina in 2005 it was a major help. The technology was able to spot out people sitting on roofs and floating objects. With microphones and cameras connected to robots and drones much of the world can know whats happening almost anywhere. Though most people think that technology is changing too rapidly. A lot of people think technology is setting most standards of society.
Technology plays a huge role in our society. Some people agree with the technology and how its evolved, others don't. Dr Murphy talks about how it helps with businesses and hospitals as well as having easy access to things. So whether or not we like it, technology is moving forward. -Kaytariana Dorsett On Sunday, August 22 in Taipei, Taiwan a 12 year old boy punched a hole in a famous painting. The 350 year old painting by the Italian artist Paolo Porpora was worth an estimated $1.5 million. The boy was caught on camera tripping over the painting's rope barrier. The 17 century oil painting is entitled "Flowers". The boy and his family are not being held responsible or expected to pay restoration costs. An insurance company will cover the costs of restoration and compensation to the owner of the painting. The exhibition was closed Monday morning but opened up later that afternoon.
