DeShawn Carrie, a 18 year old high school student, was mistaken for a burglar. On October 6, DeShawn arrived at his home after school. He was adopted into a family who is African American. The neighbors called the police because they thought that Currie was breaking in. After arriving at the scene on England Avenue in Fuquay-Varina, they walked into the house. DeShawn was in the living room when they confronted him. They assumed that he was a burglar because he wasn't in the pictures on the fireplace. After DeShawn argued with the police, they pepper sprayed him. Judging someone based on their skin color is wrong. It can scar some one's life and add confusion to a situation.
