Almost everyone has some sort of social media account but everyone uses it differently, specifically teens. A recent study was done on three eighth graders on how they and people their age use social media. All of them use the platforms differently and some don't even use all the platforms such as Facebook.
One of the teens, Zack, last name not given, uses Snapchat to share stories with his friends but not family. He also uses Snapchat to monitor what others say about him. Another teen by the name of Gia uses the disappearing messages to post selfies whether they be good or bad. KiK is another social media platform, which acts much like a text messaging system which is already on the phone. Gia says that many of her friends prefer to give out their KiK information instead of their actual phone numbers. Another well known social media platform, Facebook, is rarely used by the teens. Gia says she only knows two people her age who still use Facebook. The third teen, Salem, might have the answer. She believes that she can't be herself on Facebook since so many people shes knows are on Facebook. That might explain why more teens use Snapchat and KiK over Facebook. This study should be an eye opener for parents to monitor their children,
