The U.S. Senate recently approved a bill May 17. The bill, named the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), allows family of the victims in the 9/11 attacks to sue the Saudi Government for their alleged role in the attacks that killed nearly 3000 people. This bill has been stalled in the senate for months before finally moving towards the house. The bill needs the signature of the President to be enacted.
This bill has strained relations between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. Saudi has warned that if the bill passes, they will sell $750 billion in U.S. assets, including treasury securities. Analysts say that the Saudi won't due that won't do that, because it would hurt them more economically than it will the US.
