Have you ever wanted to look up into the sky and see massive airships? If so, then you may be excited to know that by the end of the year, that may be a very normal thing. The Airlander 10 will be the world's largest aircraft at 302 feet long. The part blimp, part plane and part helicopter craft was originally designed by British design company Hybrid Air Vehicles for use by the United States Army for surveillance. Many groups have shown interest in obtaining this type of vehicle, including the U.S. Coast Guard and the Swedish firm OceanSky, who wish to use it for wind turbine movement.
Tim Robinson, editor-in-chief of AEROSPACE Magazine, said: "The Airlander does have one big benefit over unmanned aerial vehicles. It can lift a heavier payload than most drones." Robinson also highlighted the commercial possibilities for the Airlander, such as long-range cargo airships and humanitarian missions. The ship will be tested in its first flight at the end of the year, this flight will determine the fate of the Airlander.
