Texas senator Ted Cruz dropped out of the race the become G.O.P nominee May 3. The following day, May 4, Ohio governor, John Kasich, announced he was also dropping out of the race, leaving business man Donald Trump as the Republican nominee. "As I suspend my campaign today, I have renewed faith that the Lord will show me the way forward and fulfill the purpose of my life," Kasich stated at a press conference. Kasich came in fourth place total in delegate count.
In his time in the race, Kasich amassed only 154 delegates in total and won only one primary, which was in his own state. He was fourth after Trump, Cruz and Rubio. Trump was already being called the presumptive nominee even though Kasich was still in the race. By then, Kasich was already mathematically eliminated from possibly becoming the nominee. Now we wait to see our Democratic nominee.
