On Wednesday, May 13 a recovering cancer patient named Clarence R. Blackmon Jr. made a call to 911, stating nothing was wrong with his body besides him begin hungry. Marilyn Hinson the dispatcher who answered Blackmon's call and Fayetteville Police Officer D.Edmonds went to Blackmon's home to offer assistance.
Hinson made Blackmon a ham sandwich. Blackmon was away from his apartment for a estimated six months, he has been in a rehabilitation center and the hospital. On his way home, Blackmon planned to stop by a grocery store to pick up a few items. "For some reason that plan never got executed" he said. Hinson made a list of things Blackmon needed anything. "She was so nice about it" Blackmon said. Before leaving, Hinson made sandwiches for Blackmon to eat later on. Hinson also leaving a note behind where Blackmon can reach her if he needs anything.
Since Blackmon's story hit the media, Blackmon said he has been getting calls from all over the nation. "I'm so exhausted, I can hardly talk" he said. With a full pantry, "You wouldn't believe the outpouring from people" Blackmon said." She (Hinson) made something happen" Blackmon added. Blackmon is 81 years old.
