Many people are tired of the summer heat and are excited for the cooler days, big sweaters and the beautiful changing colors of the trees. Luckily for them, the fall equinox occurred on Wednesday Sept 23 at 4:21 a.m., which marks the first official day of fall! Various people are eager to decorate their homes with fall decorations and to get Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes.
When the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun, the weather gets much colder, so the southern part of the hemisphere gets much colder, so the southern part of the hemisphere gets to enjoy the heat while it's tilted toward the sun. That would explain why we have winter when the southern hemisphere is experiencing summer. The fall equinox also comes with long nights and shorter days. The days will stay that way until the spring equinox approaches Sunday, March 20. But with the temperature decreasing, the afternoon weather will be much cooler for football games, so come out and support your Jags!
