E-cigarettes are electronic cigarettes that are powered by batteries. It produces vapor, instead of smoke, and serves as a replacement for cigarettes. E-cigarettes have been highly popular lately, doubling in the adult population and tripling among high school students. The e-cigarettes sales are predicted to top $10 million by 2017.
In a recent study conducted by the National Poison Data System, it shows that e-cigarette poisonings among children rose by 1500 percent between 2013 and 2015. Ninety percent of the poisoned children swallowed the nicotine-laced liquid, e-juice, which is inside e-cigarettes. Also, it shows how e-cigarette exposure is more harmful than cigarette exposure, because of the liquid nicotine. Half of the children exposed were under the age of 2. E-cigarette poisonings are rising, due to their sudden increase in popularity. Kids who are exposed may suffer from seizures, coma, respiratory arrest and even death. One way to prevent e-cigarette poisoning among children is store the e-cigarettes in a safe place.
