Prom is coming up and besides being aware of PDA, students should be aware of drunk drivers. Harnett County officers including resource officer, Tara Young held a drunk driving simulation outside of Overhills High School for seniors participating in prom this year.
North Carolina - in the past year - has experienced over 300 alcohol related crashes, most of them occuring around prom season.
In the simulation, the officers told the students to put on goggles that gave them the same vision s drunk person would have after drinking a case and a half of beer. They tossed a tennis ball to the students and challenged them to drive the pedal cart around a track of cones.
"I saw two lanes and didn't know which one to drive in," said Lyndze Ward, "I technically hit like six cones."
The afternoon was filled with laughter and helped the students realize how dangerous it really is to drink and drive.
