As you may be aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but you may not know that everyone no matter if male or female is born with breast cell and tissue. Males do not develop cells that produce milk, but the cells and tissue can still develop cancer. Less than one percent of all breast cancer is in men. Men have a higher mortality rate when it comes to breast cancer because they are less likely to seek help which delays treatment.
Of the men who do develop breast cancer most of them get Infiltrating Ductile Cancer (IDC). IDC is where the cells in or around ducts invade surrounding tissue. In some cases, though, men might develop Inflammatory Breast Cancer or Piget disease which is cancer of the nipple. The symptoms are lumps under or around the nipples in the areola area. Early detection is key. If you notice anything unusual in or around your breasts contact your physician immediately.
