The JROTC department commemorated the loss of so many Americans and that tragic day 14 years ago Friday, Sept 11. The 9/11 terrorist attack that shook this nation as a whole. Terrorist hijackers ran into each of New York's World Trade Center towers while a third hijacker crashed into the Pentagon in Virginia. Flight 11, a Boeing 767 out of Boston headed for Los Angeles crashed into the first twin tower at 8:48 am. Eighteen minutes later, Flight 175 out of Boston headed for Los Angeles crashed into the second twin tower. A Boeing 757, Flight 77 left Washington D.C. headed bound for Los Angeles but hit the western part of the Pentagon at 9:40 am. Lastly a Boeing 757, Flight 93 out of Newark headed for San Francisco crashed near Pittsburgh. Overall 266 passengers died in the four planes and thousands more elsewhere. This chilling event would change the nation for years to come.
This year our Jaguar ROTC department held a beautiful commemoration ceremony to honor those fallen victims. Meghan Bryant and Margarita Felix-Navarro opened up with speeches on that tragic day before introducing our principal Ms. McCrimmon. Followed by Master Sgt. Erica Jones with the singing of our national anthem and the posting of the colors. The posting of the colors was lead by Cadet Sgt. Major T. Butler, Lead Guard A. Henry, American Flag K. White, State Flag J. Coon, Battalion Flag M. Conely and Rear Guard K. Martindale. The honor guard included the following cadets G. Messer, K. Davenport, R. Cook, H. Puckett, J. N. Dimitri, K. Waterman, K. Easler, S. Collazo and the alternate S. Beneitez. The ceremony also included a speech by the battalion commander Autumn Fleshman and two accounts of fallen victims by Ania White and Matthew Habarek.
