he cargo ship El Faro left port Sept. 29. Its destination, San Juan Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, it never arrived because it was sunk by, what was then, Hurricane Joaquin. By now The United States Coast Guard has called off the search. Out of the entire crew of 33 people they only found one body. A statement from Tote Maritime, the company who owned the El Faro, said that the captain "had a sound plan for avoiding the storm, a strategy that only unraveled when the ships main propulsion stopped working."
Many ex-crew members have commented on the poor conditions on the ship. One crew member commented that the cook's room leaked a lot of water, another commented that it needed a death certificate. The company stated that it "has great confidence in its highly experienced officers." Whatever the cause for the ship's sinking, let's remember the lost crew members and pray for the mourning families.
